Maintenance 2007 - Final Wrap-Up

 

       
I decided to fashion my own hex drivers for fork maintenance, using the kit's part as inspiration.

From the kit.

I'm leaving mine loose until
I buy cheap donor ratchets.
       
John's kit wasn't packed very well, so I played around with some scrap foam I got my hands on.  
 
       
A bunch of body parts and the SSMST without them.    
   
       
Behind the triple head and under the carb mat is the other end of the right-hand switch wires (the big one). The new police switch's larger wire is a challenge to thread into position.  
 
I greased the bar end before reassembly. The stock switch screws are on left.
The police switch requires longer ones
(can't recall which of the thee I used)
and I added lock washers.
 
       
The carb mat must be put back before routing the throttle cables.    
   
       
I had to loosen the throttle cable bracket to get them back into place.    
 
       
I'd read of using an automotive air filter, and that it required something to take up the space for it's shorter height.
Bought this at Lowes. Had to split the two. Peel back and stick. First one went just outside the stock rubber seal.
First one in place. Offset the ends of the second from the first.
This one went on the stock rubber seal.		 Did a better job of snugging up the ends on second one.

  Pretty sure I shouldn't have this left over from the forks.

(Hint: also available in white).		 Think the old was due for replacement?  
 
       
The leaking forks really made a mess of the fender, but it did clean up pretty well.

Came with the rocker switch and wiring.		  
 
       
I had to slide the brake fluid reservoir inward to make way for the larger switch.
The upper and lower triple tree covers required trimming with the Dremel to accommodate.
 
 

Some have expressed problems with the throttle cables hitting the 'tank' (top cover) after installing the police switch

I'm okay, but just barely.
